The award-winning Boston Babydolls are proud to bring their expertise to The New Jersey Burlesque Festival! On Saturday, August 16, Boston's burlesque home team will be swapping their pasties for professors' gowns to teach you everything you need to know to bring your performance up to the next level! Whether you're just starting out or you're a veteran burlesque performer, these practical and useful classes will improve your performances, your marketability, and your skills as a dancer.
Burlesque: The Boston Babydolls’ Way 12pm - 1pm
Burlesque is exciting, empowering, and great exercise too! Suitable for performers of all shapes, sizes, and experience levels, this workshop for women only introduces the basic building blocks of vintage-style burlesque. You will learn dance moves and techniques for handling classic clothing elements such as gloves, boas, and stockings. Leave with everything you need to put on a burlesque performance of your very own, whether on stage or in private.
This IS My Day Job 1pm - 2pm
Making the transition to full-time employer is an exhilarating and terrifying experience. This fast-paced, interactive class offers students who are considering taking the plunge into the world of self-employment an overview of both the obstacles and rewards they are likely to encounter. We'll explore Issues both personal (how do you convince your mom you want starve?) and professional (do I need to form a corporation?) and get you on the road to being a full-time, professional performing artist.
Classic Boa Technique 2pm - 3pm
The feathers will fly! Mina Murray is one of today's most elegant and classic stripteasers. A student of 'The First Lady of Burlesque', April March, students in this class will learn basic and advance boa moves to enhance any dance routine, plus tips and tricks on selecting a boa, the different kinds of feathers, and boa care. Please wear comfortable clothing, dance shoes, and bring a boa if you have one. Inexpensive boas will be available for sale.
Choreography Techniques for Burlesque 3pm - 4pm
Choreography lets you record and remember your dance and is the difference between a professional dancer and someone who likes to dance. Join Boston Babydolls' lead choreographer Betty Blaize in an exploration of techniques for developing and recording choreography.
All classes will be held at The Comic Crypt Studios in Shrewsbury, NJ (55 White Road #1 & #2 Shrewsbury, NJ 07702). Studio space features a stage, dance floor and lighting.
